Taunton is the County Town of Somerset with the town name deriving from “Town on the River Tone” or “Tone Town” nestled between the Quantock and Blackdown Hills.  Voted as the happiest place to live in the South West according to the Rightmove Happy at Home Index, with the index painting a picture of it as a place where people look after their homes and have time for their neighbours.  Taunton’s bustling Town Centre offers many High Street shops, Bars and Restaurants, however if you are looking for something a little more boutique, we recommend you explore Bath Place and Taunton independent quarter along St James Street.

Taunton benefits from easy access to Junction 25 of the M5, Taunton railway station and bus station are both located in the town centre.  There is a good range of private and state schooling along with Richard Huish College and Bridgewater and Taunton College/ University Centre Somerset for higher education.  If you are looking for some fresh air we would recommend taking a stroll through Vivary Park located at the top of Taunton High Street with miniature and 18 hole golf course, tennis courts, playground and high ropes.  If you want to take in some History then head to Castle Green where you can find Taunton Castle, now Museum of Somerset and you can try and pull the sword from the stone!

WHY WE LOVE TAUNTON: “As big cricket fanatics we are privileged to have access to some fantastic cricket matches at Somerset County Cricket Club where the likes of Ian Botham, Viv Richards and Marcus Trescothick have graced the ground as well as Anya Shrubsole and Fran Wilson whom have both played for Somerset and England.
