Chard is a traditional historic market town, nestled in South Somerset with a population of approximately 13,500 residents and is only 30 minutes from Taunton, the county town of Somerset. Having the best of both worlds, it is surrounded by beautiful countryside and yet is only a short car journey away from the Jurassic Coastline. The high street is bustling with a number of restaurants, cafes and small-interesting shops as well as a market every Saturday. There is a local golf course at Cricket St Thomas as well as a swimming pool and leisure centre.

Chard has fantastic transport links, with the A303 just a few miles away, providing a direct route into London via the M3. The nearest train station is Crewkerne, which is 19 minutes by car and the train arrives into London Waterloo within 2 hours and 30 minutes. There is also a reliable bus network.

There are great state schools in the area including Holyrood Academy. Chard also has its own independent prep school, ‘Chard School’ and there are many other independent schools within the area, Kings College, Kings Bruton Millfield and Sherborne to name but a few.

Why we love Chard: Its unusually wide high street, where streams run alongside the pavement and the beautiful buildings which were built by wealthy clothiers in days gone by. It has a true community spirit in the bustling town, yet the tranquillity of the surrounding countryside and Jurassic Coast is not far away.
